Director of Development



General Summary:


The Director of Development is responsible for the implementation and administration of a comprehensive, sustainable fundraising program in support of the mission of the Felician Sisters of North America. Specifically, the Director is responsible for building a multi-faceted development function that encompasses an annual appeal, major gifts, planned giving, and special appeals. Additional responsibilities include cultivating and enhancing relationships with current and prospective donors by implementing strategies to identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and recognize giving.


Primary Responsibilities include:



  • Develop an on-going plan for a comprehensive North American development program.

  • Cultivate long-term relationships with major prospects/donors.

  • Personally identify and solicit major gifts for annual, programmatic and special project from individuals and foundations.

  • Plan, implement and manage a planned giving program.

  • Oversee the operations of the Development Office including donor records, acknowledgement, stewardship, and donor recognition.

  • Proactively travel throughout North America to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects

  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of corporate and foundation funding sources.

  • Develop and coordinate various special recognition events and assist with special projects.

  • Prepare presentations, proposals and stewardship reports.

  • Recommend annual goals and budget projections.

  • Attend and participate in meetings, committees, seminars, conferences and in-service training programs as directed.


Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor?s degree required.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years successful fundraising experience.

  • Fundraising experience with religious communities or religious organizations preferred.

  • Prior success in identifying, soliciting and closing six-figure gifts.

  • Extensive experience in annual gift programming.

  • Experience with developing and implementing a planned giving program.

  • Previous experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge software as well as prospect research tools experience and skill with Microsoft Office software.

  • CFRE desirable.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
